Tourist – Placid Acid

Brighton is well known for its excellent music scene – amongst other indulgences – with artists ranging from Fatboy Slim to Rizzle Kicks as well as other undiscovered gems. But Tourist (AKA Will Philips) has to be right up there as one of the most exciting electronic artists in the world, let alone the stony coastal city.

‘Placid Acid’ has a wonderfully magical sound reminiscent of the Asian tones that Yeasayer produced for their album Odd Blood. After the intro draws you in with its ever loudening distorted ambience, the drums kick into full swing before the synth adds further flavour to a track that swerves and warps beckoning your whole body to do the same. It’s one of those tunes where you’re forever discovering more and more layers and only then do you fully appreciate its ethereal nature. Just be prepared, you may get lost but you have to come back eventually.
